Byron Bay

In our last minute planning, we briefly toyed with trying to swing through Melbourne before heading to Byron Bay, but in the end, we realized that we were tired of spending just a night or two in every location and opted to spend a week in Byron instead. Our AirBnB was pretty plush, and only about a 10-15 minute bike ride to the center of town. This is a picture of one of the wild turkeys that hung around the property.

There was all kinds of bird life around actually. 

We rented bikes our first full day in town, and did a short but surprisingly strenuous ride to the lighthouse on the point.

The beaches were lovely. Neither of us got out surfing, but Nick did take a few kiteboarding lessons while we were in town. 

We ventured out of town once to check out a waterfall. It was a short, very muddy hike, and I had a surprisingly severe panic attack for no good reason pertaining to my knee, prompting me to later learn that there is a form of PTSD commonly associated with orthopedic injuries. Who knew.

We found a few great restaurants for lunches and dinners - Byron Fresh, The Beet (a vegan restaurant), Combi, and the Roadhouse where we ate breakfast basically every morning. It was nice to become a regular at a spot after so many days on the road.
