Apr 21 Apr 21 Wanaka, Franz Josef, Pancake Rocks Charlotte Genevier New Zealand We spent a couple days in Wanaka in a hotel because Nick got sick. It was nice to have a bit of luxury in the form of a real bed and a hot shower. From Wanaka, we drove north to Franz Josef glacier where we did a super short hike and stopped into the wildlife center to catch a glimpse of two kiwi birds. After a night at Franz Josef, we made our way up the stunning coastline toward Westport. Around every bend was some new breathtaking view. Along the way, we stopped at Pancake Rock, which was a bizarre rock formation that looked like stacks of pancakes. Also featured were some ocean blowholes - pretty spectacular at high tide. By this point, I was starting to feel sick (thanks, Nick) so we opted for a motel near Westport to lay our heads. Leave a comment
