A Week In Sydney
We took a red-eye flight from Denpasar to Sydney, but thankfully when we got to Sheraton on the Park early in the morning on the 2nd, the room was ready for us. We relaxed and tried not to nap for a few hours before heading to dinner at Yullis, one of Syndey's veggie-only restaurants. Dinner was delicious, but I had some serious sticker shock when we got the bill. After a couple months in Vietnam and Indonesia, Sydney sure feels expensive. Needless to say, we moved to an AirBnB for the rest of our stay, and even that was pricey.
We spent the next few days wandering around Sydney, which is a really lovely city. We walked around the park, visited a cool cathedral, found a vegan dim sum restaurant called Bodhi, and visited the Australian Museum which had a rad exhibition on spiders.
We took a really pleasant walk along the Bondi to Bronte beach trail. I was particularly impressed by the pool that fills with ocean water and the ballsy surfers taking on the rough-looking (and freezing cold) water.
We spent part of an afternoon taking a ferry boat from Watsons bay back to Circular Quay, enjoying gorgeous views of the sailboats, opera house, and the harbor bridge from the water. Nick also humored me by walking through the botanical gardens and along the shoreline to hunt down a store that sold natural deodorant (you know what they say: you can take the hippie out of Boulder...).
Naturally I took the opportunity of being in a big cosmopolitan center to get my hair done (at Raw Anthony Nader - fantastic cut and color), and Nick caught a candid of me on the street staring at my phone. Dinner was at a fabulous vegetarian haute-cuisine restaurant called Yellow. Yum.
One of our last days in Sydney, we took an uber up to Manly for lunch at Ora.
I suggested we walk out to Fairfax Lookout, which was on the tip of the peninsula.
Little did I know that the trail was going to take several hours...
It was worth it though! We were treated to sweeping views of the city and all the sailboats in the harbor.
After getting the all clear from the doc, we last-minute booked 2 weeks in a camper van out of Christchurch, found a decently-priced Emirates flight and left the city in search of more nature.
