Feb 2 Feb 2 8 Hours in the Pouring Rain Charlotte Genevier Vietnam Needless to say, after spending the night on the floor of a brothel, we needed to get out of town ASAP, rain forecast be damned! At first, it wasn't too bad. Mostly drizzling rain as we got out of Buon Ho and into the countryside. Plus, the views were pretty nice. We navigated windy roads that opened up into beautiful green vistas. It was freezing, though. And we made the mistake of assuming our rain jackets alone (vs wearing a full poncho) would keep us dry. At least our bags were protected. By the time we made it to highway 1, it was a full on downpour. We spent over an hour driving the last 40km in torrential rain. By the time we got to our resort on the beach, we were completely soaked to the bone and nearly hypothermic. Nothing a hot shower and 12 hours of good sleep in a real bed with clean sheets couldn't fix! Google claimed the 224km would only take 5 hours, but clearly it didn't take into account the dirt roads and torrential rain. Leave a comment
