Love, Believe, Do, and Mostly Live
Our first official travel day ended up being extremely humbling. After waking up at 3:45am on New Year's Day to make a 7am flight, Alaska canceled our flight 5 minutes before its scheduled departure causing us about 9 hours of delay. By the time we landed in Calgary for our connection to Kelowna, the sleep depravity had me making all kinds of rookie mistakes like leaving luggage behind in customs and going through security with a full water bottle. Plus, after toting around our luggage all day, I already want to abandon half of what we brought.
Needless to say, we were relieved to finally make it to Lane's beautiful house by the lake last night.
Kelowna reminds me a bit of Boulder if Boulder also had lakes. There's great skiing nearby, the weather is great, and there's a growing startup ecosystem. Lane has been a central driver in that growth, and today he took us on a tour of the Okanagan Centre for Innovation, a building project he's been working on for a couple of years, and which will soon serve as a hub for all the startups in Kelowna.
The other thing Kelowna has that Boulder doesn't really is a quality wine region. We spent the rest of the day enjoying fine Okanagan wine at a couple of the nearby wineries.
